  • 2 cups shredded cheese Use mozzarella mixed with cheddar for best flavor.
  • 1 cup bechamel sauce Make a thick but pourable bechamel.
  • 1 cup tomato sauce Plain marinara works well.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • to taste salt and pepper Keep salt light if cheese is salty.
For the Breadsticks
  • 1 batch homemade breadsticks Dough should include olive oil and a little salt.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Layer the bechamel sauce in a baking dish, spreading it into a smooth layer.
  3. Spoon the tomato sauce over the bechamel and spread it evenly.
  4. Sprinkle the shredded cheese on top to cover the tomato layer.
  5. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Baking
  1. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  2. Watch for steady bubbling edges and a light golden color on the cheese.
Preparing Breadsticks
  1. While the dip bakes, prepare the homemade breadsticks and bake them until golden.
Serving
  1. Serve the cheese dip hot with the breadsticks on the side.
  2. Let the dip sit for 2 minutes before serving to avoid spills.

Notes

For variation, mix in cooked meats or vegetables. Can easily be adapted to be dairy-free or lighter.
