Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1 head head cabbage Choose firm, heavy cabbage with tight leaves.
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil Use extra virgin for flavor.
  • 1 lemon cut into wedges Squeeze over the steaks before serving.
Spices
  • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder Should be fragrant and not clumped.
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika Choose smoked paprika for depth.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Adjust according to taste.
  • to taste Freshly ground black pepper Add to your taste preference.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Cut the cabbage into 1-inch thick slices to create ‘steaks’. Remove loose outer leaves and trim the stem so the cabbage sits flat.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together garlic powder, salt, paprika, and black pepper.
  4. Brush both sides of the cabbage steaks with olive oil and sprinkle the spice mixture evenly over them.
  5. Place the cabbage steaks on a baking sheet, ensuring there is space between each piece.
Cooking
  1. Roast in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  2. The steaks are done when they are golden brown and tender. Serve with lemon wedges on the side.

Notes

For best results, do not crowd the pan to allow steam to escape. Adjust oil and seasoning according to personal preference. Adding lemon juice before serving enhances the flavors.
