Method
Cooking the Bacon
- Cook the bacon until crispy and set aside.
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and lay bacon strips flat, cooking for 6–10 minutes until evenly browned.
Toasting the Bread
- Spread butter on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.
- In a clean pan over medium heat, place slices butter-side down and toast until golden brown, about 2–3 minutes per side.
Assembling the Sandwich
- Spread mayonnaise on one slice of bread and layer lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, chicken, bacon, and cheddar cheese.
- Add another slice of bread and repeat the layering process if making a double-decker sandwich.
- Cut the sandwich in half and secure with toothpicks if desired.
Serving
- Serve warm with your choice of side, allowing the cheese to set slightly before cutting.
Notes
For best texture, assemble just before serving. Use room temperature chicken for easier melting of cheese. Variations include making it spicy or vegetarian.
