Southern Maple Sweet Potato Casserole

A delightful dish combining sweet potatoes, maple syrup, and crunchy pecans, perfect for family gatherings and holiday meals.

  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

  • Sweet potatoes
  • Maple syrup
  • Brown sugar
  • Raisins
  • Spices (such as cinnamon and nutmeg)
  • Marshmallows
  • Pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and cube the sweet potatoes, then boil them until tender. Drain and mash them in a bowl.
  3. Stir in the maple syrup, brown sugar, raisins, and spices until well combined.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine chopped pecans with a bit of brown sugar and sprinkle over the sweet potato mixture.
  6. Top with marshmallows.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the casserole is heated through.
  8. Serve warm.

Notes

For creamier potatoes, add a splash of milk or cream when mashing. Toast the pecans for a crunchier topping. Adjust sweetness by modifying the amount of maple syrup.
