Ingredients

  • 8 slices of bread (preferably Challah or Brioche)
  • 1 pound ground sausage (pork, turkey, or vegan)
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tablespoon dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or a mix of cheddar and mozzarella)

Instructions

  1. Brown the sausage in a skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it into small pieces. Drain excess fat.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, dry mustard, salt, and pepper.
  3. Layer bread cubes in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread, ensuring all is coated.
  5. Add the cooked sausage and any additional cheese on top.
  6. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  7. Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C) the next morning.
  8. Bake for 45-55 minutes, checking for doneness with a fork or knife.
