Irresistible Spicy Southern Chicken

Ingredients

  • 4 Chicken breasts, boneless skinless
  • 2 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 Yellow onion, medium
  • 2 cups Chicken broth, low-sodium
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce, low-sodium
  • 1 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp Cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 3 tbsp Butter
  • 1 cup Heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and paprika.
  2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the seasoned chicken and cook until golden brown on both sides, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook until translucent.
  5. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir to combine, cooking for 1-2 minutes.
  6. Gradually whisk in the chicken broth and soy sauce, bringing the mixture to a simmer.
  7. Stir in the heavy cream and return the chicken to the skillet, simmer for an additional 10 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
  8. Serve with biscuits or cornbread for soaking up the delicious sauce.

Notes

Adjust the spice level by reducing the cayenne pepper if you prefer less heat. For a richer flavor, add a splash of white wine when cooking the onions.
