- 1 tsp Ginger, ground
- 2 Eggs, large
- 1 1/4 cup Molasses
- 3 cups All-purpose flour
- 1 tsp Baking powder
- 1 tsp Baking soda
- 1 cup Brown sugar, packed dark
- 3 tsp Cinnamon, ground
- 1/2 tsp Cloves, ground
- 1 cup Granulated sugar
- 1/4 tsp Nutmeg, ground
- 4 cups Powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Vanilla extract
- 2 cups Butter, unsalted
- 1/4 cup Buttermilk
- 1/4 cup Milk
- 1 cup Water, hot
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, spices (ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg), and salt.
- In another bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time.
- Gradually add in the molasses, buttermilk, milk, and hot water, mixing until combined.
- Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until just combined.
- Pour the batter into a greased baking pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- For frosting, beat the butter until creamy and gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until the desired consistency is reached.
- Let the gingerbread cool completely before frosting.
Notes
Make sure your butter is at room temperature for better mixing. For a richer flavor, let the cake sit for a day before serving.
