Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb Ground beef
- 2 cloves Garlic
- 1 tsp Onion powder
- 2 large Onions
- Fresh Parsley
- 1 Egg
- 2 cups Beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp All-purpose flour
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper
- 1 tsp Sugar
- 2 tbsp Olive oil
- 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs
- 2 tbsp Butter
- 1 cup Gruyere or Swiss cheese
- 1/4 cup Grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, minced garlic, onion powder, chopped parsley, egg, breadcrumbs, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and sugar until everything is well combined. Shape this mixture into meatballs.
- Heat olive oil and butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 10-15 minutes.
- Remove the caramelized onions and set aside. In the same skillet, add the flour and stir for one minute. Gradually pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring to mix well.
- Add the caramelized onions back into the skillet, seasoning with salt and pepper. Let the sauce simmer for 5-10 minutes.
- Carefully add the meatballs to a baking dish and pour the onion sauce over them. Sprinkle with Gruyere and Parmesan cheeses on top.
- Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes or until the meatballs are fully cooked and cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving, if desired.
Notes
For best flavor, caramelize the onions slowly. You can make the meatballs ahead and freeze them before baking to save time.
