Delicious French Onion Beef Rice Casserole Recipe

French Onion Beef Rice Casserole is the ultimate comfort food—savory ground beef, sweet onions, creamy soup, and tender rice baked together into a hearty, flavorful dish. Perfect for family dinners or potlucks, it’s easy to make and impossible to resist.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cups long-grain white rice, uncooked
  • 2 (10.5 oz) cans French onion soup
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for topping)
  • Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add chopped onion to the skillet and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the cooked beef and onion, uncooked rice, French onion soup, cream of mushroom soup, and beef broth. Mix thoroughly.
  5. Season with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to taste. Stir well.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish and spread evenly.
  7. If using, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly on top.
  8. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  9. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  10. Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm.

Notes

Customize with vegetables like mushrooms or bell peppers. For a creamier texture, add a scoop of sour cream. Leftovers reheat well and can be frozen for up to 3 months.
