Easy Cajun Chicken Sloppy Joes

  • 1 lb Ground chicken
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 small Onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup Chicken broth, low-sodium
  • 1 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup Tomato sauce, canned
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 1 Black pepper, freshly ground
  • 1 tsp Brown sugar
  • 2 tsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp Paprika
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 4 Brioche hamburger buns
  • 2 tbsp Butter, unsalted
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 8 oz Sharp cheddar or American cheese, freshly shredded

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until softened.
  3. Add ground chicken and cook until browned.
  4. Stir in chicken broth, tomato paste, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, Cajun seasoning, paprika, brown sugar, salt, and freshly ground black pepper.
  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it cook for 10-15 minutes until it thickens.
  6. Stir in flour to reach your desired thickness.
  7. In a separate skillet, melt butter and toast the brioche buns.
  8. Serve the chicken mixture on the toasted buns, topped with shredded cheddar cheese.

Notes

For an extra kick, add more Cajun seasoning or diced jalapeños. This dish pairs well with a simple salad or crispy fries.
