Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb Ground chicken
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced
- 1 small Onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup Low-sodium chicken broth
- 1 tbsp Tomato paste
- 1/2 cup Canned tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tbsp All-purpose flour
- Freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 1 tsp Brown sugar
- 2 tbsp Cajun seasoning
- 1/4 tsp Paprika
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp Olive oil
- 4 Brioche hamburger buns
- 2 tbsp Unsalted butter
- 1 cup Whole milk
- 8 oz Sharp cheddar or American cheese, freshly shredded
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until soft.
- Add the ground chicken to the skillet; cook until browned and cooked through.
- Stir in the tomato paste, canned tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, chicken broth, brown sugar, Cajun seasoning, paprika, and ground black pepper. Let the mixture simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes.
- In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for about 2 minutes. Gradually add the whole milk, whisking to avoid lumps, until the sauce thickens. Stir in the shredded cheese until melted and smooth.
- Toast the brioche buns.
- To serve, spoon the Cajun chicken mixture onto the toasted buns, and drizzle with the creamy cheese sauce.
Notes
Taste and adjust salt and Cajun spice as you cook. For a creamier sauce, consider adding cream cheese or sour cream.
