Cabbage Rolls

Cabbage Rolls are a warm, easy meal with meat and rice wrapped in soft cabbage leaves.

  • Total Time: 80 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/4 cup white rice, uncooked
  • 1/4 cup Italian breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, uncooked rice, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until combined.
  3. Remove the core of the cabbage and boil it in salted water until the leaves are tender (about 5-10 minutes).
  4. Peel off softened leaves and let them cool.
  5. Place a spoonful of the beef mixture in the center of each leaf, fold in the sides, and roll it up tightly.
  6. Place each stuffed cabbage roll in a baking dish, seam-side down.
  7. Pour tomato sauce over the rolls, covering them completely.
  8. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour.
  9. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

Use a large cabbage head for big leaves, and do not overfill. Keep a bowl of warm water to help soften and shape leaves.
